BAGDOGRA: The Round the World Expedition by two Indian Air Force Pilots, Wing Commander. Rahul Monga and Wing Commander Anil Kumar have reached Bagdogra in West Bengal, their second destination.
The Expedition was flagged by the Chief of Air Staff at 8 this morning from the Hindon Air Base. Fali H Major is the first CAS who is a chopper pilot. As a Wing Commander, he commanded the IAF's first Mi-17 Squadron, which operated at the Siachen Glacier, the world's highest battlefield.
As a Group Captain, he commanded another Mi-17 Squadron leading the operations of the Indian Peace Keeping Force, IPKF in Sri Lanka.
The Micrcolight aircraft, picking up good winds, reached Allahabad its first destination thirty minutes before the planned local arrival time. The pilots logged 574 kilometres from Delhi to Allahabad and instead of landing at 11:16 hrs (IST), they arrived thirty minutes earlier.
After rest and refueling, the aircraft took off from Allahabad at 1300 hrs(IST) and reached Baghdogra at 17:06 hrs (IST) covering a distance of 730 kms.
The pilots will take off early morning on Saturday at 0500 hrs (IST) from Bagdogra and fly into Guwahati. They will reach Guwahati under two hours and after an hour or more of rest will fly out of India into Myanmar. They will reach Mandalay and after resting for about two hours will reach Yangon.
The Expedition will cover a total of 1553 kilometres on Saturday.
